Governor Scott Walker announced today that Commonwealth Management Corporation of Fond du Lac, Wis., will receive a $150,000 Brownfield Grant award from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) to assist with remediation expenditures encountered in the redevelopment that will result in Trinity Townhomes, with a projected completion in December 2012.
“The completion of this important redevelopment will advance the revitalization of the Fond du Lac Arts and Entertainment District and should attract significant investment in the community,” said Paul Jadin, CEO of the WEDC.
The award will reimburse Commonwealth Management Corporation for remediation activities undertaken to convert a former underutilized gas station site that has residual petroleum contamination issues into a 29-unit affordable housing project at 220 Ruggles Street in Fond du Lac. The utilization of a vapor intrusion system and hauling contaminated soil off-site will ready the site for residential apartments.
Upon completion, this formerly blighted site will feature three new apartment buildings with 23 three-bedroom units and six two-bedroom units, a fitness center and a central apartment community area.

The WEDC is Wisconsin’s lead economic development agency.
