New Businesses Formed Increases in 4th Quarter

The number of new businesses formed in Wisconsin was up in the fourth quarter and grew by 2.3% in calendar year 2011, according to data released today by the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions (DFI). New business formation totaled 33,190 in 2011, compared to 32,458 in 2010. In the fourth quarter of 2011, 8,034 businesses were formed, an increase of 0.3% over the fourth quarter of 2010.

The business formation data is compiled by DFI’s Division of Corporate and Consumer Services, which is the filing office for the creation of business entities in the state. The division tracks new business creation on a monthly basis. Click here to see the full monthly report (PDF).
