International Business Development Mission to South America – April 14-24, 2012

WEDC will lead a multi-sector business delegation to Wisconsin’s fastest growing export markets in Brazil, Chile and Colombia.

Participants will receive a market briefing in each location and have individualized business meetings with prospective representatives, distributors, clients and customers in each country. The trade mission will also feature special water-specific briefings, government and industry meetings for companies involved in that industry.

Recruitment for this mission will begin mid-November. WEDC is partnering with the Council of Great Lakes Governors. Other states actively participating in the mission include Ohio, Michigan and New York.

Targeted industry sectors for each country of the mission include:
Brazil: Agricultural equipment, process control/industrial automation, medical/health care equipment, mining, energy (oil & gas/solar & wind), aerospace & aviation, environmental technologies, safety & security, telecom & IT, and water technology related products and services.

Chile: Agricultural machinery & equipment, construction, food processing & packaging, healthcare, mining, safety & security, corn, whey & lactose products, animal genetics and water technology related products and services.

Colombia: Construction & mining equipment, medical equipment, automotive parts & accessories, pollution control equipment, food/beverage packaging equipment, oil & gas, electrical power systems, consumer oriented & high-value food products and water technology related products and services.

Why Export to Brazil, Chile and Colombia?

Brazil

• Brazil is Latin America’s largest economy with a population of nearly 200 million people.  It has one of the world’s fastest growing economies and a GDP per head that is greater than either India or China.
• U. S. exports to Brazil in 2010 were $35 billion, up 36% from 2009.

Chile

• With a population of about 17  million, Chile offers a dynamic, transparent and low risk business climate for exporters.
• U.S.-Chile Free Trade Agreement in place since 2004 (90% of U.S. products automatically duty free).

Colombia

• U.S. exports to Colombia reached $12 billion in 2010, up nearly 30% from 2009.
• The World Bank ranked Colombia as the third most business friendly country in all of Latin America.
