Economic Development Week: Recognizing the Value of What We Do

Executive-Message-Mark-Hogan-headshot-200x300Never before has the field of economic development been so multifaceted, challenging or rewarding. Economic developers remain vigilant in their communities, seeking opportunities for economic growth, better jobs for residents and an improved quality of life. Economic Development Week, taking place May 8-14, is an opportunity to recognize the importance of investing in new opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation works with a network of more than 600 regional and local partners to foster economic growth and job creation across a spectrum of industries in all regions of the state. Whether relocating or expanding, companies employ local construction services to build and outfit their new facilities. As a result, new local vendor relationships are established to support growing operations. Newly added workers shop at local retailers. The area’s tax base grows, providing resources for community services and raising the quality of life for citizens. Thriving communities draw additional business investment and families whose skills serve as fuel for yet more new business opportunities.

I am encouraged by the collaboration I see among business, community, academic and economic development stakeholders throughout the state who are fully committed to advancing Wisconsin’s long history of forward thinking. Congratulations to the participants in the many economic development successes, of which this newsletter highlights just a few. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to making Wisconsin a great place to live, work and play.

Sincerely,

Mark R. Hogan
