Open house event to take place May 14, 2016

MADISON, WI. April 4, 2016—The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation’s (WEDC’s) Wisconsin Main Street Program is pleased to announce a new collaborative event designed to showcase unique historic and cultural assets of Wisconsin downtowns. With more than 15 communities and 80 sites participating in the event, the public will enjoy the opportunity to visit and explore local attractions, many of which are not usually open to the public.

For one day only, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 14, owners and operators of unique and iconic properties statewide will open their doors to the public for free viewing, tours and interpretive events. Communities large and small and venues old and new, including rooftops, museums, dungeons, forts, churches, theaters, event venues, residential lofts and other properties, will open their doors to Wisconsin residents and visitors free of charge.

With locations across the state, visitors can take advantage of the opportunity to get to know their local community better or plan a road trip to explore new Wisconsin destinations. Many of the participating communities also feature complementary activities for visitors, ranging from local business specials to food and music demonstrations and tastings. A list of participating communities and sites is provided below. Interested parties may also visit www.wisconsindowntown.org/open-house to view an interactive map of participating sites and download additional information on the event.
