Panama is the fastest growing and most dynamic economy in Latin America, with GDP growth of 6.0 percent in 2015 and estimated 6.3 percent in 2016. With a population of 3.9 million, a GDP of $46.2 billion in 2014, and a diversified economy based on a well-developed service sector (the Panama Canal, logistics services, banking, free trade zones, insurance, container ports, tourism, etc.), the country has maintained sustained economic growth, averaging 8.2 per year over the past decade.
