Wisconsin Delegation to Explore Trade Opportunities with China in April

Governor Scott Walker, with representatives from WEDC and the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, will lead a trade mission trip to China April 12-21, 2013, to build trade ties between Wisconsin companies and Chinese businesses and investors. The mission will showcase the state’s global leadership in key industry sectors and position the state as a destination for foreign institutional capital. Businesses encouraged to participate are those in the sectors of advanced manufacturing, clean energy, environmental/water renewal, and food processing and safety.

China is already Wisconsin’s third largest export destination at $1.38 billion last year. By 2015, China’s middle class will equal the entire U.S. population. As China’s population and purchasing power continue to grow, opportunities for Wisconsin businesses will also grow, especially for those specializing in infrastructure development, healthcare, food production and environmental sustainability. In addition, the country’s economic growth has also produced a savvy investor class looking for new opportunities.

Members of the delegation will receive special access to Chinese market information and decision-makers, including customized business appointments reserved for high-level government-sponsored groups. WEDC staff will work with on-the-ground Chinese partners to tailor the experience to participants, whether their goal is market access or capital attraction.

The trade mission will include meetings in Beijing, Shanghai, Hefei and Harbin, with one-on-one meetings available in each location. The Governor will meet with Wisconsin businesses already operating in China. In Hefei, the Governor’s focus will be to further Wisconsin’s reputation as a world leader in environmental and water remediation technologies and services. In Harbin, the delegation will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Wisconsin-Heilongjiang sister-state relationship and highlight our agricultural exports.
