Montreal Prepares to Build Light Rail System
The Reseau Électrique Métropolitain (REM) is a planned $5.5 billion light rail transit system that will stretch 67 kilometers across the greater Montreal area and connect with the city’s existing metro, rail lines and buses while running 20 hours a day, seven days a week. The REM project represents the largest public transportation infrastructure project in Canada since the Montreal metro was inaugurated in 1966, and will be the third-largest automated transportation system in the world, behind the Dubai Metro (80 km) and the Vancouver Skytrain (68 km).
Australia Updates Drone Regulations to Help Industry Take Off
In 2015, Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia (CASA) spokesman Peter Gibson was quoted as saying that CASA was being inundated with an unprecedented number of applications to commercially operate drones: "They're being used in agriculture, mining, by police forces, fire brigades, aerial photography, survey work, mapping, all sorts of things… and the applications people are putting them to broadens all the time.” In September 2016, new, relaxed drone regulations come into force, and it is expected that this will help the industry take off.
