Master of complex international markets
Because of their success in global business development, Hatco
received a 2012 Governor’s Export Achievement Award, an awards program administered by WEDC. The award was the culmination of nearly two decades of work on export expansion, and Hatco now exports to more than 110 countries across the globe.
Hatco’s international sales department dates back to 1994, when the company launched a strategy to break into the markets where food service companies were expanding overseas. Headquartered in Milwaukee, Hatco has been a driving force of innovation in the food service industry since 1950. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the company realized that its primary markets for expansion were overseas, but the company had little experience with conducting business internationally.
Food service industry innovator
In implementing its strategy, the company looked to both emerging and developed markets, offering food warming and holding solutions to restaurant operators, often pioneering the concept of food safety standards within these countries. With the help of state international trade resources, Hatco successfully navigated the complex approval processes within these markets and connected with local representatives and distributors overseas, including in Mexico. With the continued growth of its international business, Hatco has established regional “Quick Ship” warehousing programs to decrease long lead times and get products into international customers’ hands faster.
