WHY IMPORTANT TO WISCONSIN: Wisconsin companies could have access to networking and mentoring, as well as a potential entry to the broader Asia Pacific market.
Australia is making it easier to do business with companies from other countries.
The International Landing Pad opened in Sydney in early 2024. It may sound like an airport facility, but instead, it is a coworking space in the Sydney Startup Hub, an 11-story building that’s home to nearly 400 young companies.
The goal is to “provide a soft landing for businesses from overseas to enable them entry into the Australian markets seamlessly,” says the New South Wales government.
New South Wales is considered Australia’s economic center. Sydney is its capital, with more than 5 million residents.
The International Landing Pad hopes to attract a range of technology startups, including digital platforms of all types, clean economy, defense and aerospace, medical and life sciences, and agriculture and food companies.
To be eligible, businesses are required to:
• Be legally registered and headquartered outside of Australia
• Be in existence for at least one year at the time of application
• Have a minimum of five full-time, non-founder employees
• Have generated at least $5 million AUD ($3.2 million USD) in revenue within the last three years
Benefits include collaborating with other entrepreneurs; access to the local tech community and government sources; local market insights and investment opportunities; and assistance in identifying potential partners and suitable locations within New South Wales.
Wisconsin companies interested in the program can apply here. Getting established in Australia could also open doors to the broader Asia Pacific market.
