MADISON, WI. NOV. 24, 2021 — Gov. Tony Evers proclaimed Nov. 27, 2021, through Dec. 31, 2021, “Shop Small Wisconsin” across the state, an initiative to encourage Wisconsinites to shop local and support Wisconsin’s Main Streets and small businesses during the holiday season. A copy of the governor’s “Shop Small Wisconsin” proclamation is available here.

Additionally, Gov. Evers, together with cabinet members, shared a video message celebrating “Shop Small Wisconsin” and encouraging Wisconsinites to shop at local small businesses during the holidays.

Small businesses are the hearts of many Main Streets and communities in every corner of the state. Shopping at a local small business and Main Streets is an investment in local jobs, supports strong communities, and contributes to Wisconsin’s continued economic recovery from the coronavirus pandemic. Wisconsinites can find a number of local businesses near them by going online to mainstreetwi.com.

The Evers Administration’s video message can be found on the governor’s YouTube channel, and a transcript of the video message is available below.

Hi, Wisconsin! I’m Anne Sayers from the Department of Tourism…I’m Secretary Craig Thompson from the Wisconsin DOT…From the Wisconsin Department of Health Services…And I’m Governor Tony Evers.

This weekend, we’re kicking off celebrating Shop Small Wisconsin, and we’re teaming up to encourage Wisconsinites to shop local and support Wisconsin’s main street businesses throughout the holiday season.

Our small businesses have been incredibly hit hard during this pandemic, but they’ve also been so resilient.

We’ve been working hard to get economic relief out the door to help tens of thousands of Wisconsin’s small businesses throughout this pandemic.

This year, more than 1,000 businesses have opened new shops and offices with help from our Main Street Bounceback grants, and that means there are even more great places we can support!

You can help us keep up this good work by shopping at your local businesses and main streets this season.

I’m shopping small this season because I like to give back to the local community…Because it’s vital for our Main Streets, and small businesses are the heartbeat of the Wisconsin economy.

When we support our small businesses and our main streets, we’re supporting our farmers and their families…we are supporting our veterans…we’re supporting our tourism industry…we’re supporting our communities, and we’re helping make sure they recover and bounce back from this pandemic even better than before.

And helping our neighbors is what being a Wisconsinite is all about, folks!

From Minocqua to Milwaukee, Peshtigo to Platteville, with thousands of small businesses across our state, you’re sure to find something unique for your family and friends, you might even find something for yourself, too!

So, kick off this holiday season this Saturday, November 27, by shopping at our local small businesses, take a walk down main street or visit MainStreetWI.com to discover some of the great local businesses near you.

Let’s shop small, Wisconsin!
