United Arab Emirates (UAE) is taking bold steps to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into health care.

UAE’s National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031 is pushing the country to integrate AI in ways that are “increasingly predictive, preventive, and personalized,” according to a July 2024 article by WHX Insights, a global health care industry magazine.

For example, the Emirati Genome Program, initiated in 2023 by the Dubai Health Authority, is a national study that uses AI to draw a comprehensive genetic map for UAE citizens to identify genetic causes of diseases and to develop personalized, preventive health care solutions.

Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi uses diagnostic and treatment tools provided by Wisconsin-based Epic Systems to streamline clinical workflows and provide more accurate diagnoses and better patient outcomes, according to Black Book Research.

Meanwhile, Oracle Health, Cleveland Clinic, and the Abu Dhabi-based G42 technology group are forming a strategic partnership to develop a groundbreaking AI-based health care delivery platform. They plan to use large-scale data analytics and intelligent clinical applications to create secure, scalable, and accessible care models that help people live longer, healthier lives.

At Cleveland Clinic in Abu Dhabi, AI is already being used to transform cancer care, reducing diagnostic times by as much as 50% while improving the accuracy of personalized treatment plans.

Blockchain technology also plays a role, enhancing the security, transparency, and interchange of data among health care providers. The system also eliminates billing mistakes, targets fraud, and reduces administrative costs, according to Forte Healthcare.

Wisconsin companies working on AI solutions for health care may be able to play a role in developing innovations that could benefit people not just in the UAE and the U.S. but worldwide.
