BROOKFIELD, Wis. — A 156-year-old train depot has been given a new life in Brookfield as a coffee shop and community gathering place.

The restored 1860s Brookfield Junction Depot reopened as Coffeeville Co. Monday.

In November of 2021, the depot was moved 300 feet across the street from its original location of Brookfield Road and North Hills Drive.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation says for nearly a decade, the city of Brookfield worked to save the 1867 train depot believed to be the city’s second oldest surviving structure. After purchasing the depot from Canadian Pacific Railway for $1, the city moved the depot to its current site to serve as a Waukesha County trailhead and to become a community gathering place with a privately-run café.

“To have it revitalized like this really will serve as a catalyst for this area,” says Brookfield Mayor Steve Ponto.
