Why this is important to Wisconsin businesses: A new council is expected to seek collaborators on artificial intelligence research projects that could open the door to Wisconsin companies in the sector.
Abu Dhabi, part of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is delving into the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the UAE and Abu Dhabi’s leader, has established the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council to develop and implement policies and strategies related to research, infrastructure, and investments in AI and advanced technology. The council will also pursue collaborations with local and global partners.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, says the UAE could serve as the world’s “regulatory sandbox” to test artificial intelligence technologies and later spearhead global rules limiting their use.
Abu Dhabi’s focus on technology has been growing over the past several years. The emirate created its Advanced Technology and Research Council in 2020 to expand on its research and development ecosystem and to make it easier to commercialize intellectual property. In 2023, the smart and autonomous vehicles industry cluster was launched to establish Abu Dhabi’s position as “a global hub for the development of smart and autonomous vehicles” and build on the strength of its aviation and aerospace industries, the emirate’s Department of Economic Development said.
Wisconsin technology companies in the AI sector may have opportunities to make connections in Abu Dhabi.
