Why this is important to Wisconsin businesses: Wisconsin companies in clean energy technology, storage, and infrastructure may find opportunities.

Brazil is powering ahead with clean energy.

Investments in solar and wind energy totaled $13 billion in 2024, a 2.5% increase over the previous year, according to the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo.

Solar power led the way, with 14.3 gigawatts (GW) installed in 2024, 1.8 GW more than the amount added in 2023, according to the Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association.

About 60% of the new units involved distributed generation, in which solar panels are installed on rooftops and in rural fields and property owners can benefit from discounted fees.

Overall, Brazil’s solar industry attracted $9 billion in investments in 2024, a 30% jump from the previous year.

In 2025, the solar energy industry anticipates $6 billion in investments and the addition of 13.2 GW in capacity.

According to the International Energy Agency, Brazil is a global leader in clean energy production, with the lowest share of fossil fuels in its energy mix among the countries with the 20 largest economies.

Wisconsin companies with products and services for the clean energy industry may be able to find out more about Brazil’s clean energy efforts and make connections at the Intersolar South America conference.
