Why This is Important to Wisconsin: The trend can open doors to Wisconsin companies selling sandblasting machinery.

Wisconsin companies making construction machinery, such as sandblasting equipment, may find interest from companies in Mexico.

Industrial projects are booming and auto parts manufacturing is up—both sectors that commonly use sandblasting machinery.

Manufacturing is one of Mexico’s highest grossing sectors. In the second quarter of 2024, the industry recorded a gross domestic product of $6.6 billion MXN ($3.7 million USD), up 5% over the previous quarter, according to Data Mexico.

More than 350 industrial projects were built in Mexico in 2023, driven by high demand for nearshoring, according to a Mexico News Daily article. The cities with the highest rate of construction were Monterrey, Nuevo León; Mexico City; and Saltillo, Coahuila. Monterrey alone gained more than 100 industrial facilities as companies sought to move close to the U.S. border, according to the Mexican market analysis firm Solili.

Vehicle and auto parts production also showed a significant rise. From January through June 2024, a total of 1,996,136 light vehicles were manufactured, up 5.2% from the same period in 2023, the National Institute for Statistics and Geography reported.

According to Forbes Mexico, states such as Guanajuato, Coahuila, Chihuahua, Nuevo Leon, and Queretaro have been leaders in the automotive industry for years, and the government is now introducing initiatives to encourage vehicle production in other regions, as well.

Industries use sandblasting to reshape a surface, to remove contaminants, or to prepare it for painting or other treatment.

Manufacturers of sandblasting equipment could take advantage of market opportunities by introducing innovative designs, materials, and features that cut costs, require less labor, and use fewer abrasive materials, thus reducing the amount of dust and debris that result from the process.
