Greater Milwaukee Urban League honors WEDC
The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) was honored with two awards from the Greater Milwaukee Urban League (GMUL) Wednesday during the League’s annual Equal Opportunity Day Salute to Excellence. The League presented WEDC Secretary and CEO Missy Hughes with the Excellence in Community and Economic Development Award for WEDC’s work to address the needs of diverse businesses and chambers of commerce and for the organization’s efforts to advance worker retention and recruitment following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Five groups win grant funding to boost entrepreneurship
Five organizations with fresh ideas on how to strengthen entrepreneurship and support new business ventures have won a total of $170,850 in a new grant program administered by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC). The Entrepreneurship Partner Grants, awarded on a competitive basis, aim to promote entrepreneurial growth across the state and impact underserved communities by funding new programs.

Paid for by $100 million in the federal American Rescue Plan Act, 12 projects across Wisconsin are to soon receive $59.5 million in Workforce Innovation Grants through the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.
High school diploma opens opportunities
A state Workforce Innovation Grant worth up to $5.6 million will allow the college, YWCA and other partners to guide more students through the process of earning a high school diploma and entering the workforce or seeking additional training. Gateway Technical College and its partners including the YWCA of Southeast Wisconsin, Southeast Wisconsin Workforce Development Board and Racine County Higher Expectations will use the grant funding for Southeast Wisconsin’s Talent Optimization Project (SWTOP).
Applications open February 22 for second round of Workforce Innovation Grants
Applications will open February 22, 2022, for the second round of Workforce Innovation Grants of up to $10 million to local and regional projects that will help meet the state’s next-generation workforce needs, Governor Tony Evers announced today. The Workforce Innovation Grant Program offers grants from $250,000 up to $10 million to regional economic development partners to design and implement innovative plans to tackle their communities’ most pressing workforce challenges.
