The 10th annual Wisconsin Innovation Awards took place Oct. 10.

SixLine Semiconductor, a Middleton startup whose product could someday improve the speed and battery life of your cell phone, won the grand prize in the 2023 Wisconsin Governor’s Business Plan Contest.

The Milwaukee-based startup helps improve efficiencies in areas that include reducing the denial rate for medical claims and proposing payment plan terms that are likely to result in on-time payments.

From its roots in the Madison area, the startup is expanding its services across Wisconsin and has contracts with regional and national health insurance companies.

The Milwaukee-based group supports entrepreneurs through one-on-one coaching, personalized mentoring, and connections to resources.

The Beloit-based company develops lithium-ion batteries that serve as an alternative to traditional lead-acid batteries.

A recent article shares the experience of Fork Farms founder Alex Tyink, who found that Wisconsin offers a supportive, tight-knit community; access to capital; an ecosystem with a mission to help businesses thrive; and a wealth of private and public resources.

A search is underway for qualified fund managers, which will then select the companies to receive investment—an expected $500 million over the next decade, with the returns reinvested in subsequent rounds.

Applications are due March 10 for the next round of Entrepreneurship Partner Grants.
