Gov. Tony Evers, together with Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) Secretary and CEO Missy Hughes, announced, with new recipients in Iron County awarded today, the Main Street Bounceback grant program has now helped fill vacant storefronts in all 72 counties and has helped more than 3,400 small businesses and nonprofit organizations across the state.
Making child care sustainable
A Workforce Innovation Grant from WEDC and the DWD worth up to $3.5 million will allow the United Way of Door County and its community partners to strengthen the county's child care workforce in hopes of creating a long-term, sustainable approach to affordable, high-quality child care that can be replicated elsewhere.
Wisconsin companies shore up domestic supply chains but challenges remain
After winning a trade dispute with China, Stoughton Trailers boosted production of equipment that's essential for the movement of manufactured goods across the nation. This year, the company says, it's adding 500 jobs in Wisconsin and Texas to produce the framework, known as the chassis, for intermodal shipping containers used to haul everything from clothing to vehicle parts. The company's growth has come as transportation, medical products, defense, and other U.S. industries have struggled with supply chain issues and some have called for domestic manufacturing of critically important products.
